Gateshead expect their players and staff to finally receive their overdue September wages on Tuesday. Interim chairman Graham Wood confirmed the news as the club moves closer to a takeover by an American investment group.
"I expect club wages to be paid on Tuesday," Wood said. An agreement in principle has been reached with the Flacks Group for them to take over the running of the National League side. A deal struck on Thursday saw the prospective new owners provide an immediate loan to cover the overdue salaries, with funding released on Friday. International banking procedures mean the money should arrive by Tuesday at the latest.
The financial relief comes during a desperate season on the pitch. Gateshead sit 24th in the National League with just four points from 13 games. Their latest defeat was a 4-1 loss at FC Halifax Town on Saturday, which was their 11th league loss of the campaign. The club sacked manager Lee Cattermole earlier this month after he managed just one win in 14 matches in charge.
Supporters can check the full fixtures list as the team prepares for its next match at home to Tamworth on 23 October. The immediate focus, however, is on the wage payment finally reaching the squad.
