Gateshead chairman Bernard McWilliams has stood down from his role due to ill health. McWilliams, who has been involved with the club since 2019, stepped up from his role as vice-chairman to replace Neil Pinkerton in May last year. And now, former chairman and owner Graham Wood is to stand in as interim chairman. McWilliams said he thanks the board for their support and understanding as he takes this decision to step back, but the time has come to put his health first. Gateshead are also currently without a manager after Rob Elliot left last month to take over at Carlisle United. The club's search for a new manager is ongoing, with Wood's interim chairmanship expected to bring stability during this period. So, the focus will be on finding the right candidate to take the club forward. McWilliams' decision to step down is effective immediately, and the club will look to make an announcement on a permanent replacement in due course. But for now, the priority is on supporting McWilliams during this difficult time and finding a suitable replacement for the managerial role.
