Gateshead FC forward Adam Campbell is assessing his options after leaving Hartlepool United. The 31-year-old has held talks with clubs in the National League and National League North as he awaits the next step in a career that was kickstarted back in 2012 when he became the youngest player to play for Newcastle in European competition with a substitute appearance in a Europa League tie at Greek side Atromitos. Campbell joined Pools during the summer of 2024 and there were high hopes he could build on the momentum he gained from helping former club Crawley Town secure promotion into League One just weeks earlier. After marking his debut with an assist for fellow former Magpies academy product Jack Hunter in a 1-0 win against Yeovil, Campbell went on to score just two goals and provide just one further assist during his first season at the Prestige Group Stadium. Those figures improved during last season as Campbell racked up nine goal involvements in 32 appearances - but his time with Pools was brought to a close last month when he left the club after his contract came to an end. Assessing what could lie ahead, Campbell said: “It’s been quite a slow summer. Usually you see a lot of movement but it doesn’t seem that way. It has picked up in the last week to ten days and I’ve had a couple of meetings with managers and had a couple of chats on the phone with others. I am positive about what the future holds and it will be National League or National League North - but that could depend on certain other things.”
