Worthing FC extended their unbeaten league run to six games after a 1-1 draw at Yeovil Town on Tuesday night. The result sets up their visit to face Gateshead this weekend, with the Heed rooted to the bottom of the National League on just four points from 11 matches.
Razzaq Coleman De-Graft gave the visitors the lead just before the half-hour mark. His effort from outside the box found its way past Yeovil goalkeeper Jos Barker. "It gave the away side the advantage just shy of the half hour mark, firing an effort fortuitously beyond the reach of Glovers stopper Jos Barker," Coleman De-Graft said afterwards.
Yeovil boss Billy Rowley had wanted a fast start from his newly-promoted side. "He had given his team instructions to go out and make a fast start, but it was Worthing who did that," Rowley admitted. Ricky Aguiar forced an early save from Barker, and Charley Kendall later rattled the crossbar for the visitors.
How the draw unfolded
The home side equalised in the second half through an unfortunate own goal. A free-kick from captain Brett McGavin was turned into his own net by Worthing defender Joe Cook. Cook later made amends with a key last-ditch tackle to deny Johl Powell a potential winner.
Both goalkeepers were busy. Taylor Seymour made several stops for Worthing, while at the other end, Ben Radcliffe blocked a second Coleman De-Graft effort and Jack Kingdon thwarted a late attempt from Cory Adjetey-Brew. Jordan Norville-Williams struck the post for Yeovil, and Jordan Young headed just wide for Worthing.
Adam Hinshelwood named an unchanged Worthing side from their weekend win, with Powell starting after his goal off the bench at Kidderminster. The point leaves Worthing eighth, one point and one place above Yeovil in the table.
Gateshead, meanwhile, are searching for a first point in six games after a 1-0 home defeat to Altrincham on Tuesday, their fifth consecutive loss. They have conceded 25 goals this season, the worst defensive record in the division, and sit 25 points adrift of leaders Boreham Wood. Their full recent results, including a 4-0 loss at Wealdstone, are available on our standings page. Worthing's Coleman De-Graft has now scored three goals in his last four appearances, adding to the challenge for the league's bottom side.
