Gateshead face a critical National League fixture at home to Altrincham on Tuesday night. The Heed are bottom of the table with only four points from their opening ten matches, while their visitors sit comfortably in eighth place with 18 points.
Their recent form makes for grim reading, with five consecutive defeats. The most recent was a 4-0 loss away to Wealdstone last Saturday. The club's goal difference of minus 18 is the worst in the division, a direct result of conceding 24 times while scoring only six goals all season. They have also failed to score in their last 270 minutes of football.
Altrincham arrive in strong form, having won three of their last four league games. Their top scorer Jimmy Knowles has netted 11 goals this season. The previous meeting between the sides in April ended in a 3-1 win for Altrincham.
Gateshead will need to find a way to stop the goals going in. Kain Adom, the club's top scorer with ten goals across all competitions, will be a key figure if they are to get a result. The match kicks off at 19:45 UK time at the Gateshead International Stadium. Following this fixture, Gateshead are scheduled to travel to face Aldershot Town on Saturday.
